how about a little inspiration…
Life is full of inspiration, and believe it or not most of the time we don’t have to go looking for it because it is right under our nose. Yesterday in my blog post I shared some inspiration that was almost at my front door. Today, I found inspiration just by reading some of my favorite blogs.
Tara Reed shared some musical inspiration this week…get ready to turn up the volume!
Martha Lever always inspires me with her positive, upbeat message and the beautiful art and calligraphy on her site.
Alisa Burke is another inspiring artist…she has beautiful photos, artwork and a beautiful attitude.
So, for anyone who can’t find inspiration or direction or anything to smile about maybe after you visit these ladies you can find a smile and then why not just break out the paints or maybe the dancing shoes and do something creative!

Focusing on the goal….and seeing all the details
Having a goal or goals is important; however, seeing all the small details that will help you reach your goal is also important. How do you do that? Not easy…in fact, sometimes it is down right hard to see the big picture and juggle all the small details. So, what do I do?
Lists, a written plan, and breaking down tasks into smaller units that are easier to accomplish. I try to remember that a puzzle is put together one piece at time, and that big goal that is looming in front of me is a puzzle and will be attained slowly as I work out all the small details..
My big picture is licensing my art to multiple companies. The small details are creating more art to add to my portfolio, creating collections of art, researching manufacturers, contacting art directors and many other details are on my list and in my plan.
Will it all be accomplished? Yes it will, especially if I work at it like putting together a puzzle.

thinking on good things
Today I received a sweet email from artist Carla Grogan and she inspired me with this scripture….
"whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things!" (Phil 4:8).
Isn’t that beautiful and such great advice….spending time on good things makes us all happier and even healthier.

Keep working on the goals
Sometimes it is easy to give up, quit, change directions, let go, be discouraged and just plain stop working toward a goal or goals. Reasons are many…however, whatever the reasons if we stop before we reach our goals we cheat ourselves of so much. Reaching a goal gives us satisfaction on so many levels and to deny ourselves the pursuit of the goal is a real shame.
Quite frankly if I stop short of my art licensing goals I will not only prove my critics to be right, I will cheat myself of this journey and the joy of seeing my art on products. The pursuit of licensing my art has shown me many things about myself.
Perseverance-I have tested my resolve to persevere in spite of all the bumps and pot holes in this road. My level of perseverance is much stronger than I realized. In other words, I have a real “stick to it” ability to continue this pursuit and my resolve has not only been tested…I have proved my resolve to be alive and well and quite strong.
Creativity—my level of creative/artistic ability has grown and improved. I have found new levels of talent and my art has taken on new elements and variety. When I sketch, my pencil seems to have a mind of its own and I am creating art I have never created before.
Learning—I am stretching myself artistically and technologically. In this art licensing journey I have taught myself new software such as Photoshop and Illustrator…two new tools that are now a vital part of my art licensing journey. Since I have always loved computers this was and is a natural extension of my artistic and technology skills.
So…if I had given up after the first rejection or “advice” where would I be today? Less creative, less willing to pursue and less knowledgeable. For me…that is just unacceptable.
Here’s to more creativity and less giving up on goals!!!!!

heading toward point B on my art licensing journey
Things are humming around here…working hard for The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market in July. Lots of new art in my sketch books waiting to be scanned for design work in Photoshop. The next couple of weeks will be filled with finalizing art collections, updating my portfolio, calling manufacturers to set up interviews and so much more. I will be on the road for a couple of weeks, away from distractions, focused on art and preparing for Atlanta. This journey is exciting and a little stressful; however, I am determined.
I received the following quote in a newsletter from Sally Evans and it really fits where I am in my art licensing journey. There is some hesitancy and thinking about drawing back; however, and that is a big however, I am committed to this next move. If I don’t totally commit I will never know what I can accomplish…so I Am Committed.
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

The only way I know to get from point A to point B is head toward point B….so I am headed to point B in my art licensing journey.

This week I will be meeting with an artist friend, http://www.periwinklepapers.com/creative-designs.htm; I am looking forward to seeing where her art licensing journey is taking her.
On my calendar are a number of other tasks I need to complete…taking art files to the printer to have prints and cards made to sell in my Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/vickieleadesigns, finishing up journal kits and listing them in my Etsy shop. All of this along with creating new art for my portfolio will keep me busy.
Making a list or writing out what needs to be done helps me stay on track and in turn helps me have a wonderful week.

Spring time and creativity
Spring has arrived…and this year it totally took me by surprise. Of course, that could be because I have been on the road traveling from home to Texas, back home, back to Texas on to Arkansas and now back home. Since the end of January I have been on the go and have experienced weather changes on the road from North Carolina to Texas to Arkansas to North Carolina. Spring happened while I was on the road and upon arriving home this week it looks like it has been around for a while. However, that is ok since spring is my favorite season, and I certainly am happy to see warm weather, green grass, blooming trees and flowers dotting the landscape. The cold dreary days of winter are gone and now I can come out of hibernation.
My goals for licensing my art haven’t changed…just have had a few delays in my progress. All of this traveling has made me even more aware of how much I want to create art. The trips were necessary, I’m glad I could go and because I am an artist I took my art with me…maybe didn’t get as much accomplished as I would have liked; however, even sitting and doodling is progress for me. Doodling seems to lead me to new design ideas and keeps my mind connected to my art.
