the Monday
before Christmas
when all through this house
we’re wrapping the last Christmas presents
backing boxes for moving and giving thanks to God

Day 48 of 61 days challenge
On December 19, 2009 this was the scene
out our hotel window….
My husband and I had travel into the North Carolina mountains to attend our daughter’s college graduation. Graduation was cancelled. We had quite a time navigating the roads and couldn’t get to our daughter’s dorm until the next day. The snow was beautiful…all 11 inches.
Today I snapped these pictures of store decorations while out Christmas shopping.
It doesn’t seem like there are as many lights and decorations this year. The mall this afternoon was packed…I am thankful that most of my shopping is completed.

Day 47 of 61 days challenge
On my list of things to accomplish in 61 days, I have checked off another item…Christmas gifts were shipped today. Yeah!
On the art front I continue to create new art…Christmas art mostly. It just seems like what I should be creating right now. There are other ideas on the drawing table that I’ll be working on after Christmas.
On the home front we will be closing on our house next week!!! We’ll be moving in January…which means I will have some down time from my art. This also means I won’t be attending Atlanta Mart in January, so I will plan for July.
Looking back into my memory files of Christmas past I believe one of the activities I always loved was wrapping gifts. Much time and work was spent on creative wrapping, bows, etc.

Day 46 of 61 days challenge
Simple things in life bring joy and happiness…sometimes we just over complicate life and we find ourselves stressed, over worked, maxed out and well—overloaded. Christmas is one of those times when we can find ourselves overloaded.
Several years ago I decided to stop working at making Christmas perfect…I can’t accomplish that no matter how hard I try. I began to enjoy Christmas as a time to spend with my family and not as a time for gifts and decorating. I give gifts and decorate; however, the focus shifted to enjoying the gift of time with family.
This works for everyday, not just Christmas. Enjoying family and friends and appreciating what we have can give us a new perspective on our lives and it helps us to let go of unimportant things.
Another word to add to my 2012 inspiration board is SIMPLIFY. Because….

Day 45 of 61 days challenge
Words to inspire, encourage, uplift and challenge…as I look forward to 2012 I am thinking about words this week. Words to carry into 2012, to post on my inspiration board and to live by, so that I am daily reminded of where I am going, why I’m going and how to live on my journey. Today I am thinking about BELIEVING. What do I believe, why and how does it affect, change or influence my life.
I BELIEVE God has a plan and I will seek His wisdom to walk in that plan daily.
One of my earliest Christmas memories is my dad trekking into the woods to cut our Christmas tree. We would wait eagerly for him at the front door…such a sweet memory.

Day 44 of 61 days challenge
December 14, 2011…17 days until 2012. For the next few days I will be looking back at the year and forward to the new year. As I contemplate finishing up 2011 as strong as possible and I look forward to 2012, I want to remember that life is fragile, I do need others and there is strength from above for whatever lies ahead.
This year has been hard for me…last year (2010) just days before Thanksgiving my dad passed away. Although I know his faith was in God, and I have faith that I will see him again I miss him beyond words. He was a steady rock in my life and his laughter, generosity and love for his family were the characteristics that made me proud to say he was my dad. Watching him go through pain for a year was extremely hard to bear…this year I have grieved and wept for our loss. I am thankful for the legacy my dad left for his family and friends.
As I look forward to a new year, something I want to see more of in my life is ACTION. I will be putting that word on my inspiration board. I know that whatever I want to do and what I feel God wants me to do is urgent…I need to step up my game, jump in with both feet, let go of fear, doubt or anything that keeps me from taking action.
Another word for my inspiration board is PARTICIPATION. Sometimes it is easy to be isolated from life because sometimes what is happening around us is hard to bear. 2012 will see me back in the Participation mode….joining in, becoming part of, doing more, being who I know God wants me to be.
LAUGHTER is another word for my inspiration board…finding joy, enjoying life and laughter brings cheer and uplifts the heart.

I continue on with my 61 days challenge…blogging every day, creating art, working on new collections and working on new ways to market myself and accomplish my dreams of licensing and selling my art has been the focus. I am happy with my accomplishments…there’s more to do!
As the 61 days challenge winds down I will be taking some time at the beginning of the year to regroup. We will be moving in January and I will need to set up my new studio area, plus get the house organized. So…lots on my to do list for 2012 even before 2011 ends.

While I was out and about yesterday I snapped a few pictures of the winter sky….I love the contrast of the bare trees against the winter sky.
and of course whenever I get the chance to get a picture of our flag I try my best.
